Pedroia's Knee Surgery Will Keep Him Off Field Until May

Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia underwent knee surgery this week and is expected to miss the start of the 2018 season, according to the team.

Pedroia underwent cartilage restoration procedure on his left knee on Monday. The surgery was performed by Dr. Riley Williams III at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York. The procedure was deemed a success.

He is expected to be out approximately seven months.

In 2017 Pedroia missed all but one game in August with two stints on the disabled list due to problems with his left knee.

Next season will be Pedroia's 13th in the majors. Last season, Pedroia played in 105 games and batted .293 with seven home runs and 62 runs batted in.
