A 13-year-old male was reportedly shot three times in the legs overnight in Boston's Hyde Park neighborhood.

Boston police said the teenager walked into a local hospital after being shot around 10:40 p.m. Wednesday on Wood Avenue. He is expected to survive.

A neighbor confirmed to NBC10 Boston that the teen is 13 years old. He was reportedly walking home from the bus stop with his friend, a 12-year-old male, when he was shot.

The 12-year-old said a car with two young men pulled up to them and started shooting.

"Some guy came up to us in the car. He was like, 'Where you all from?' We said 'Nowhere,' and then he was like, 'OK' and he came back and he started shooting," he said.

The 12-year-old said his friend was screaming, "Don't let me die, please don't let me die."

An investigation is underway after a teenager was shot in Boston's Hyde Park neighborhood Wednesday night.

Neighbor Marcel Cannon was coming home from the gym when he heard the gunfire.

"It didn't seem like they were up to anything wrong," he said of the two kids. "They were just coming from the bus stop."

Cannon, hearing the boy screaming, didn’t want to wait for the ambulance, so he drove the boy to the hospital himself.

“On the way there I saw some of the holes in his body and he had a bullet in his cell phone, so maybe that might have prevented something,” he said.

The motive in the shooting is unknown. No arrests have been made, but the investigation is ongoing.

Police said ballistics evidence was recovered at the scene.

Four bullet holes could be seen in a residential fence on Wood Avenue where the shooting happened on Thursday morning.

"The sound yesterday was very distinct. It was really distinct. You can't miss it," said Lucy Kamara, who lives in the neighborhood.

She said her daughter heard screams, and someone crying and calling out for help.

"I was scared, because when you live in the area with gunshots you get scared," said Aminaca Jalloh, another neighbor.

The shooting was the latest in a series of violent incidents in Boston this week.

On Tuesday, three police officers were shot and a suspect killed after an hours-long standoff. Later that night, a woman was killed in a double shooting in Mattapan.
