Orange police were first to arrive at the fire scene, and reported the home was heavily involved in flames and one occupant was confirmed to be trapped in the residence. Officers tried to enter the building but encountered heavy fire and smoke.
When firefighters arrived, they spoke with an injured person who told them where the trapped occupant was located. They entered the building and conducted a search while pushing back the flames, and were able to locate an older woman who was injured and unresponsive. They got her out of the building and she was taken to the hospital, where she later died.

The second injured person was also taken to the hospital and is expected to survive.
Two other occupants of the home escaped safely. Several dogs were rescued, but several others died in the fire.
About 15% of the town of Orange was temporarily left without power on Thursday morning as a result of the fire, according to WWLP. Electricity had been restored by Thursday afternoon.
The fire doesn't appear to be suspicious, said the Department of Fire Services. They said wood stoves were used to heat the home, which was severely damaged by the fire.
The home is a total loss. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
West River Street was closed between Pleasant Street and Walnut Hill on Thursday morning, and residents in the area were told they might see brown water due to all of the water used to battle the blaze.
