    Weather Forecast: Frigid Temps

Wednesday night: Mostly clear. Lows in the single digits. Thursday: Sun and clouds, scattered flurries. Highs in the 20s, wind chill teens.

    (Published Wednesday, March 6, 2019)

We are in the middle of a cold spell across the northeast, and that means another bitterly cold night as lows dip into the single digits, teens south, and below zero across the North Country.

Wind chill values will be around zero for much of the night and for Thursday morning. High temperatures will stay cold in the afternoon, 20s with wind chills around 10. Another shortwave passes through Thursday afternoon, triggering another wave of scattered flurries and snow showers, with sunshine in between.

Our pattern slowly changes Friday through the weekend as the jet stream flips and a ridge builds across the east. By next week, we will at least be around average to above normal by the end of the 10-day.

Friday into Saturday our highs will be in the mid to upper 30s both days as we're tracking a low-pressure system to our south. Our forecast models are trending just a touch more north, which means the south coast will likely see at least some flurries or scattered snow showers. This is a quick system, and not expecting a lot of accumulation, if any, maybe scattered coatings to around 1 inch.

Saturday afternoon is dry for everyone with sunshine. Sunday afternoon we're also noticing a colder trend on the forecast models so there is a chance for sloppy snow, changing to a mix then to rain Sunday overnight into Monday morning as temperatures modify a bit. Highs will reach the low 40s Sunday and will stay in the mid to upper 40s Sunday night through Monday afternoon before a cold front ushers in more cold and some wind Monday afternoon.

This next cool-down for Tuesday will be brief with highs in the upper 30s. We bounce back with highs in the low 40s Wednesday. We're expecting even warmer temperatures Thursday through next Saturday with highs in the mid-40s to low 50s and tracking some scattered rain during that time frame.
