A Barnstable Police sergeant is facing drunk driving charges after crashing his car into a utility pole.
Police say 46-year-old Christopher Challies was driving down Route 6A in Sandwich when he veered off the road, slamming right into a pole.
He was rushed to the hospital with possible internal injuries.
According to officials, Challies was already on paid leave for leaving his service weapon at a restaurant.
In addition to the drunk driving charges, he also faces several traffic citations.
