Here’s a simple equation that will please the entirety of the beer-drinking masses during the summer months in New England.
It goes: Classic arcade bar + pop-up outdoor beer gardens + local hooch = happiness.
Understanding that intimately is Bit Bar, the stand-up video game and pub Valhalla born from a series of pop-up boozy video game events going back to 2014. Come June 1, it’s launching a new summer pop-up outdoor beer garden on their patio flanked by the granite walls of the Old Salem Jail.
The beer garden will operate through the fall, with patrons able to call for tasting flights as well as ample bratwurst and beer cheese just for the patio, along with the entire bar menu (see: comfort food) from inside the restaurant.
“We are excited to transform our amazing patio into a showcase for the talented brewers of New England. We hope that it will become a community backyard for the North Shore and a nice complement the vibrancy of summertime Salem,” said co-owner Joshua Allen in a release.
The new outdoor bar will house four tap lines featuring classic, limited release, and deep-stock offerings from a revolving lineup of New England breweries each month. June kicks off with Maine’s Allagash, who is going to whip up some other events at the venue throughout the month (think: Beer and Cheese tasting courtesy of The Cheese Shop in Salem, and a pinball tourney on June 11). July will be Everett’s Night Shift Brewing; August will stock suds from Gentle Brewing and Old Planters Brewing, both out of Beverly.
By early fall, September will be all Jack’s Abby out of Framingham, and October will feature Connecticut’s Two Roads Brewing. The beer garden will close Oct. 31 for the season.
