Popular Spots in Brookline and Southie Among This Week’s Restaurant Closings

Popular spots such as Southie's "The Playwright" and Brookline's "The Fireplace" are among this week's restaurant closings.

Luke's Lobster is set to open in Boston's Seaport District. The restaurant will move into The Benjamin and VIA luxury apartment complex on Northern Avenue. There are already two other locations in Boston, one in Back Bay and one at Downtown Crossing. The address of the restaurant will be 25 Northern Avenue.

Popular Southie bar The Playwright is set to close on Sunday, August 6. The bar opened back in 2000 and offered pub food as well as draft beer and cocktails. The address was 658 E Broadway in South Boston.
The Fireplace in Brookline's Washington Square is closing at the end of August. The restaurant features American food and drinks. The location is 1634 Beacon Street in Brookline.
Sebastians located in the Seaport District is no longer in business. The chain has two other locations in Boston-area including one on Summer Street in the Financial District and another in Cambridge's Kendall Square. The cafe was located at 157 Seaport Boulevard.
Old Sully's in Charlestown has closed. The dive-bar located in the historic neighborhood closed quietly. The bar was featured in the Ben Affleck film "The Town." The address was 56 Union Street in Charlestown.

The Intrepid Cafe plans to open in East Cambridge. The cafe plans to have seating for 12 and a proposed capacity of 60. It would be open from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m. during the week and from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. on weekends. The cafe would be located near the CambridgeSide Galleria. The address would be 150 First Street.

Hops N Scotch may be replaced by Wits End in Cambridge's Inman Square. The bar is looking to transfer its liquor license to the new spot. Currently Hops N Scotch offers a rotating menu of French and Italian food along with a long list of whiskey and scotch choices. The address would be 1248 Cambridge Street.
Hidden Boston
Popular dive-bar in Jamaica Plain Drinking Fountain is closing its doors. The bar was once chosen as one of the best watering holes in America. It was in business since at least 1945. The address was 3520 Washington Street.

Yume Wo Katare Udon may replace Ittyo Restaurant, a popular ramen spot in Porter Square. Ittyo is requesting a name change at a hearing on Wednesday, August 9. The restaurant would be located at 1815 Mass. Ave., in Cambridge.
The Smoke Shop BBQ in Cambridge's Kendall Square plans to open a second location somewhere in Boston. The popular spot has won numerous awards for its BBQ and chef Andy Husbands has even written a few cookbooks. The address for the new spot is not known at this time.
